Elena Mamay is an associate in the Cross-Border and Estate Litigation groups at Cambridge LLP. Her practice focuses on complex national and international litigation; public and private international law; and Will and power of attorney disputes and breach of fiduciary duties in complex estate and trust matters. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts and earned her post-graduate law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where she focused her studies on international arbitration and international security law.
Elena joins Cambridge after serving as an international legal advisor to the Special War Crimes and Organized Crime Trial and Appellate Chambers of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). During her tenure at the Court, Elena participated in a number of high profile cases and advised judges in cases related to:
1. Prosecution of high-ranking military (and paramilitary) commanders and political leaders for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed during the 1992-1995 war (War Crimes Chamber);
2. Prosecution of Mladin Ivanic, former Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska, and his entire Cabinet over corruption and abuse of office charges (Organized Crime Chamber);
3. Prosecution of terrorist groups over the threat to the national security of BiH as well as the international community (Organized Crime Chamber); and
4. Numerous constitutional and jurisdictional challenges pertaining to the right of an Accused to a fair trial as well as a right to be free from torture and inhuman treatment under the European Convention of Human Rights (both War Crimes and Organized Crime Chambers).
Before Elena took up her international position, she practiced in the Private Client Department of a prestigious law firm in Boston, Massachusetts. Elena also taught international public law and international criminal law at Georgetown University Law Center as a part of her Global Teaching Fellowship.
