Michael Morgan is a seasoned lawyer with extensive experience in tax law, estate planning, estate administration, and business law. Having practiced with highly respected firms in Toronto and the Burlington/Hamilton area for many years, he now focuses on helping clients navigate complex legal and financial matters. Michael has been recognized by Best Lawyers In Canada 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

As a senior estates and tax law practitioner, Michael assists clients in achieving their business and personal objectives, including:

  • Tax structuring for businesses, including business formations, corporate reorganizations and tax considerations in commercial transactions.
  • Wealth preservation planning, such as estate freeze reorganizations and capital gains exemption crystallizations.
  • Estate planning, including structuring and preparing wills, multiple wills, powers of attorney, and family trusts.
  • Business succession planning, ensuring smooth inter-generational transitions or transfers to key employees.
  • Business law guidance, covering incorporations, amalgamations, shareholder agreements, partnership agreements and wind-ups.

Michael frequently advises accountants, financial planners, investment advisers and insurance professionals on tax and estate planning strategies. He is a sought-after speaker on tax, estate, and business succession planning, presenting to professional organizations, including bar associations, tax foundations, and estate planning councils. He has also taught at Queen’s University Law School and in the Ontario Bar Admission program.

Michael holds a law degree from the University of Toronto and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Osgoode Hall Law School. Active in professional and community organizations, he has served on various boards, including the Halton County Law Association Board of Directors. His personal interests include travel, sports, and music.
