Advance Health Care Consultant, Bioethicist, Registered Nurse

Sandra has been a health care professional for over 30 years. Her career has largely focused on supporting individuals and families navigate the moral, ethical, and legal landscape encounter within the health system. Sandra was Clinical and Organization Ethicist at Hamilton Health Sciences for over 11 years, serving 7 care facilities and leading several End-of-Life initiatives to support smooth transitions for patients and families who are experiencing the final years of life. Sandra is a community leader in public education initiative related to Advance Care Planning and the development of Advance Health Care Directives.

Sandra’s primary focus is around health care planning and early integration of palliative care services in the home, hospital, and hospice environment. Sandra is a Master Trainer in the Serious Illness Care Program, an international education program aimed at building infrastructure and the capacity of health care professionals to engage in value-based communication with patients as they near end of life. Sandra is also a facilitator for Health Canada’s initiate on Advance Care Planning.  Sandra Co-produced a mini-series titled “Living Well When There is no Cure,” in collaboration with Bob Kemp Hospice that was nominated for the Community High Impact Awards in 2020.

Sandra joined the team at Cambridge LLP in 2021 as an Advance Health Care Consultant to offer clients an opportunity to walk through the process of advance care planning and to dive deeper into the development of Living Wills and Advance Health Care Directives.  In additions Sandra also offers Cambridge clients her unique experience and vast knowledge of the Ontario Health care industry including the process of end of life care planning and decision-making, health care consultation and patient advocacy, health care system navigation, mediation and conflict resolution and counseling related to alternate housing options as we age.

Sandra holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Nursing degree from McMaster University and her Master of Health Sciences degree in Bioethics from the University of Toronto.
